Colorado Insurance discounts – what may be available?
Everyone wants to save money when possible. Are you aware of discounts that may be available to assist with the costs of your insurance? Here are some of the more common ways you may be able to save some money on your insurance.
Bundling with another policy
Most carriers like it when you have more than one insurance product with them. We can see savings up to 20% in some instances when a client bundles products with a carrier. The most common we see would be bundling your homeowner’s insurance with your auto insurance. But other ways to bundle would be to bundle your auto insurance with a renter’s insurance policy or motorcycle policy or to see if the carrier has other policies to go with your auto insurance that may qualify for this discount if you add the policy. For example, would adding an umbrella insurance policy qualify?
Homeowners Insurance Discounts
Bundling is your best option for a discount with your home insurance.
Most insurance carriers will give a discount for upgrading to class 4 shingles.
Be sure you let your agent know when you update items in your home such as the roof, electrical, heating, and plumbing. These updates may assist with your insurance rates.
Always take a look before you submit a claim. Unless you know the amount of damage will be over your deductible, it may be better to get a quote for the repairs first to see if it makes sense to submit the claim. Your agent should be able to assist you with questions regarding this. Note that once a claim is turned into your insurance carrier, it counts as a claim, even if no payment is made.
Auto Insurance Discounts
Bundling with another policy (multi-policy discount), claims-free discount, good student discount, multi-vehicle discount, low mileage discount, paid in full discount, paying with electronic funds transfer, paperless discount, or completing a defensive driver course are all possible options you may have to save on your auto insurance in Colorado.
Consider the carrier’s Intellitrack or similar program that monitors your driving habits. You can see auto insurance carriers advertise you can save as much as 30 percent for good driving habits. This is done by downloading an app to your phone where they will track your driving habits. With this, they usually will give you hints as you drive to show how you can change a habit to get you a better auto insurance rate. Carriers differ on how long you need to be monitored; some go 90 days while other keep monitoring as long as you have their auto insurance policy. Many will give you a discount just for signing up.
