Insurance on your home is to protect one of our greatest assets for most people. We are here to assist people in making decisions, so their homes and property are adequately covered. We do this by getting to know our clients.
Your basic home insurance is here to protect the home from sudden and accidental losses. It is meant to restore your home to its status before the loss. However, over the years, carriers have determined that there are coverages that clients may need to protect homes better and fill in gaps that the basic home policy may not cover. Therefore, they have created endorsements to help clients fill in the gaps and choose what coverage may better protect the individual client. The following are some endorsements or additional coverages that are commonly available and can be added to a person’s homeowners policy.
Extended Dwelling Coverage: Provides up to an additional percentage of the dwelling coverage amount should repair or replacement exceed the original dwelling coverage amount displayed on the declarations page. This coverage usually starts at an extra 25%, and some carriers offer full replacement cost coverage.
Personal Property Replacement Cost: Personal Property (Coverage C) is extended on a replacement cost basis to most items of personal property. Without this, your property is covered at Actual Cash Value.
Building Ordinance or Law Coverage: Increased limits are available to increase coverage for requirements to comply with any ordinance or law that regulates the construction, repair, or demolition of your dwelling.
Extension of Owner-Occupied Dwelling Liability: Option to extend liability to secondary locations owned by the insured (i.e., secondary or seasonal location, etc.). Indicate the number of locations to be covered.
Home Business Package: Package of coverages for the home-based business customer. Includes coverage for business personal property, business merchandise, other structures used for business, and limited business liability.
Personal Offense Coverage: Provides liability coverage for injury arising out of personal offenses, including, but not limited to, false arrest, detention, libel, slander or defamation of character, and invasion of privacy.
Service Line Coverage: Optional coverage for physical loss or damage to covered service lines on the residence premises that is the direct result of a service line failure (limit and deductible apply). Covered losses include, but are not limited to, wear and tear, rust and corrosion, mechanical breakdown, freezing or frost heave, and tree or other root invasions. Coverage is limited to that part of the service line running from the point of connection to the main service or utility line up to the dwelling.
Sewer and Water Back-Up for Building and Contents: Provides coverage for building and personal property when a loss occurs because water backs up through or overflows from a sewer, drain, sump, sump pump, or any system on the residence premises designated to remove subsurface water from the foundation area. This coverage does not apply if the loss is flood induced.
Identity Recovery Coverage: Provides coverage for expenses, including help-line assistance and case management services, to assist a customer with recovering their identity following a covered ID Theft loss.
Water Seepage or Leakage: Provides coverage for direct physical loss or damage caused by accidental, repeated, or continuous seepage or leakage of water or steam from within a plumbing, heating, air conditioning system, or household appliance.
Incidental Farm Coverage: Package of coverages for certain exposures presented by eligible incidental or “hobby” farming. The carrier looks at how many animals and what type they are.
Matching of undamaged siding, roof surfacing, and windows: Provides coverage for replacing undamaged roofing, siding, and windows to match adjacent materials that were replaced as the result of a claim. For example, when the siding of a home is damaged by hail and the original vinyl siding is no longer sold or available, or the original vinyl siding is mismatched due to weathering.
Home Sharing: This coverage protects customers who rent out all or part of their homes on a short-term basis1 when the home is owner-occupied more than rented.
Cyber: Provides coverage for identity recovery, online fraud, cyberextortion, cyberattack, data breaches, and cyberbullying.
